Dr. Kirchner is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and a Research Associate in the Health Services Research & Development (HSR&D) Center for Mental Healthcare Outcomes & Research (CeMHOR) of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. She is the former recipient of a Veterans Administration (VA) HSR&D Career Development Award (CD 97-308.A) focused on the provision of mental health and substance use treatment in non-specialty settings. She is a nationally recognized expert in the early detection and management of mental health and substance use disorders in primary care settings and has received numerous local, regional, and national awards in recognition of her clinical, teaching, and research endeavors. The primary focus of her research and clinical work is the education of primary care providers about the management of mental health disorders and educating school personnel and students about depression and alcohol use.

Dr. Kirchner received her B.S. in math and economics at Mississippi University for Women and her M.D. at UAMS. She completed an internship, residency training in psychiatry, and an NIMH postdoctoral fellowship in mental health services research at UAMS as well. She is board-certified in psychiatry and licensed to practice in the state of Arkansas.
