Teaching is a tough job, and with the challenges kids face these days, it doesn’t make a teacher’s job any easier!
One of those challenges is the many kids with some form of mental illness. Among the most frequent problems for adolescents is depression.
If, as a teacher, you want to help teach your students about depression and help them better understand resources, while fulfilling important curriculum standards, consider teaching the scientific basis of depression with a toolkit that includes a ready to deliver curriculum, complete with glossary, teacher’s guide and lesson plan, enrichment activities, even test questions!
Introducing:
The Scientific Basis of Mental Disorders
A unique teaching toolkit on mental health
Mental health is a complex problem. And perhaps, even harder to teach to young students. But the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has spent two years developing a valuable toolkit tailor-made for teaching high school students about the science of depression.
At Partners in Behavioral Health Sciences we have what we believe is the most up-to-date understanding of mental illness that science has to offer.
PIBHS developed this teaching toolkit as one method for achieving several of the following key objectives:
■ Improve awareness of the advances in the recognition, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders in K-12 students.
■ Reduce stigma by dispelling myths about mental illness.
■ Enhance access to mental health services for students and teachers.
■ Increase student interest in the science of mental illness.
Education is the key to the understanding and treatment of depression. The sooner the door is opened, the quicker we can shed light on depression. The PIBHS Toolkit is a unique and practical scientific resource that can educate our children (and teachers) about depression, how to recognize it, how it is treated, and what resources are out there for helping those with depression.
The tallest among us are those who stoop to help another.
Whether you are a high school teacher, a nurse with young patients, or a school administrator, the PIBHS Toolkit may be of interest to you as a unique and usable scientific resource for the educational setting.
Education is an important first step in prevention and in helping adolescents to be aware of the need for treatment and in helping them gain access to appropriate resources. When our kids understand depression, support their peers in seeking help, and actually gain access to those resources, we can see more and more adolescents go from this:

Why are we asking you to register? As a research and academic institution, we are wanting to find out who is using the information and how it is being used. We also would like to share valuable updates with you. We will not sell nor share your information with any third parties. We will only use information you provide to contact you.
Depression vs. normal low moods: Depression is more than a passing mood but is a very treatable medical illness. If left untreated, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years and can reoccur.
